A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson Jr.
This Tuesday, June 23rd, is Primary Day in New York, and it is imperative you make the effort to vote if you haven’t already. Hundreds of Local 3 members have been out in the streets over the last six weeks volunteering to help elect Labor’s candidates. Volunteers have spent hundreds of hours speaking to our members and other union members during phone banks and canvasses, letting voters know what’s at stake and why we need union allies in Congress and State government.
A major race for NY State Comptroller involves Tom DiNapoli, who remains the right person for this job. Let’s get out the vote for Tom DiNapoli, a true friend of Local 3. Additionally, our friends in Congress – Representatives Grace Meng, Tom Suozzi, and Dan Goldman – have all stood with us over the years and positively impacted our livelihoods and work opportunities with their work, so let’s make sure they return to Washington, D.C. In the NY State Legislature, allies like Senate Labor Committee Chairwoman Jessica Ramos, State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, and others have consistently worked hard for working people.
The DSA in NY continues to push the Democratic Party further left, talking about helping working people, but without real and lasting relationships with unions. They’ve gone after incumbents with pro-union and pro-worker records for reasons unrelated to our economic interests. Local 3 and our members are the working class in New York, and it’s on our members’ backs that some in government want to provide relief for others. We stand with all working people, whether they’re represented by a union or not, but it shouldn’t be our pension plans and healthcare plans being used as piggy banks.
Make your voices heard, sisters and brothers, and vote for Labor’s candidates who stand with us and support pro-IBEW policies. Our future and our livelihoods depend on it.
