The Executive Board of Local 3, IBEW elected Michael J. Loreto as Recording Secretary to fill the unexpired term of Thomas J. Cleary on November 14, 2019.
Michael is a third-generation Local 3 electrician. He was born in the Bronx and grew up in Orangeburg, NY. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, NJ. Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Ramapo College and an associate degree in Labor Studies from Empire State College. Michael was initiated into Local 3 in 1995. He worked for Forest Electric, Ferguson Electric, Five Star Electric and ADCO Electric.
During his apprenticeship, Michael served as a Class Rep, and then he became an “A” Journeyman in 2000. Michael worked on various jobs over the years, most notably the George Washington Bridge, World Financial Center, NY Post Building, NY Times Building, 335 Madison, Hilton & Sheraton Hotels, Morgan Stanley White Plains, Brooklyn Navy Yard and Rockefeller Center. Michael became a foreman for ADCO Electric in 2005. He currently works as the General Foreman of 1211 6th Avenue from 2007 to the present.
Michael joined the Catholic Council in 1995 as a TA-1 apprentice. There he served as an officer of the Catholic Council from 2000 to the present, first as a Trustee, then on the Board of Governors and as Vice President. He was the Catholic Council Communion Mass and Breakfast Ticket Chairman in 2003 and then Chairman for two years in both 2004 and 2005. He was the Chairman of the Catholic Council Children’s Christmas Party from 2006-2015. Michael was elected President of the Catholic Council in 2016 and re-elected in 2018. He is a Co-chairman of the Scholarship Fund of the Catholic Council of Electrical Workers.
Michael was elected by his class to the Wage and Policy Committee in 2000, and he served on contract negotiations in 2010 and also was part of the Pension Subcommittee. He is currently a mentor in the Local 3 Mentoring Program and was a mentor in the MIJ Bootcamp since its inception. Michael has served as the Recording Secretary of the Laws and Resolutions Committee from 2017 to the present. He was elected to the Election Board in 2017 and elected to serve as Judge for the Election Board Committee during the 2017 elections.
Michael is a member of the Christopher Columbus Society and was the co-chairman for the 2018 Italian Heritage Festival. Michael is also a longtime member of the Westchester Mechanics, Allied Club and Colony Club, where he also served as Treasurer for four years. He was appointed to the Diversity and Inclusion Committee in August 2018, and he is a member of the Giovanni Cabota Italian Club in Harrison, NY where he resides. Michael is married 8 years to his wife Alassandra and is the proud father of two daughters, Liliana and Juliana.
