With the approval of the membership, Business Manager Christopher Erikson appointed Louis Sanchez a Business Representative at the General Membership meeting on October 9, 2014.
Louis assumed the responsibilities of Ray West, who was reassigned to the Midtown Manhattan area upon the retirement of Business Representative Austin McCann. Louis’s responsibilities include Local 3’s jurisdiction in White Plains, New York and Fairfield County in Connecticut, as well as the “M” Division in the Westchester area.
Louis entered the apprentice program in June 2001 and was the class representative. He was active on the apprentice softball team during his apprenticeship. He received his “A” journeyman’s card in January 2007 and was nominated by his classmates to the Advisory Committee that same year. He is also active with the Organizing Committee of Local 3.
Louis served as an officer in the Bronx Acorn Club, phone captain in the Mentoring Program, and an instructor in the Local 3 Boot Camp. He is an active member of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society and the Westchester Mechanics Association. He co-created Local 3’s Facebook page that now has over 11,000 followers.
Active in his community, Louis helped create an organization called the B.L.A.C.K. Club, which stands for Building Leadership And Community Kinship. With this organization Louis has organized numerous toy drives at area hospitals, food drives to feed the homeless on Thanksgiving, and a Halloween event to raise money for breast cancer.
In 2012 he attended the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus as a delegate representing the Bronx Acorn Club in Houston, Texas. He also attended the Connecticut AFL-CIO Conference as a delegate and the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus in Kansas City, Missouri.
