Joseph Santigate III is the Assistant Business Manager of the New York City Construction Division of Local 3, IBEW.
Prior to being appointed to Assistant Business Manager in December 2011, he was the Business Representative for the western part of Brooklyn and the entire borough of Staten Island, which he is currently responsible for along with the utilities on Staten Island. These include Con Edison, National Grid, NRG Power Plant, Lewis Tree Service, and Homeserve.
Joseph was initiated into Local 3 in October of 1984 as a DBM Division member. Then he entered Local 3’s Apprentice Program and became an “A” journeyman.
At the General Membership Meeting November 10, 2005, he was appointed Business Representative. Prior to that he was a sub-foreman, foreman, shop steward and Assistant Super of J.F. Volpe Electric.
Joseph is a former President of the Staten Island Electrical Club and currently a member of the
Kingsboro Bedsole Club, the Catholic Council of Electrical Workers and the Christopher Columbus Society.
Joseph was on the 2004 Negotiating Committee for the “A” contract and also served as Chairman of Inspectors for the General Membership meetings, Inspector of Local 3 Elections and member of the Hardship Committee and Wage and Policy Committee. He was an alternate delegate to the 38th International Convention in Vancouver in September of 2011.
Joseph is a Trustee of the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry, where he is a trustee to many of the different plans. He is a delegate to the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York and has also served as President of the Staten Island Board of Business Agents.
Joseph stays involved in his community as a member of the Richmond County Democratic Committee and North Shore Democrats. He has also been involved with community athletic programs and the Notre Dame Club’s “Bread of Life” food drive.
