October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer afflicts women and men, and thousands of people are diagnosed each year. There are currently 4 million breast cancer survivors living in the United States.

The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Queens organized a Breast Cancer Walk in Flushing Meadows Corona Park on the morning of Sunday, October 18th. About 50 members of Local 3, including apprentices, instructors, and family relatives, participated in the walk to raise awareness and funds for research, treatment, and programs that help people going through a battle with a cancer diagnosis. Local 3, IBEW’s team has raised nearly $8,000 and is still accepting donations. Photo credit: Chrysanthea Joi, 2nd-year apprentice.
