It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Volunteers from the St. George Association and other affiliated clubs of Local 3 once again participated in the yearly tradition of decorating the Electchester neighborhood, Harry’s Rock on 161st Street, and the tree in the courtyard of First Housing on Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Avenue.
Starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday morning, approximately 50 volunteers helped string up hundreds of feet of lights on the tree and on light poles throughout the neighborhood. They came from the Sign Division, Apprentice Advisory Committee, Latimer Progressive Association, Motorcycle Club, and the previously mentioned St. George Association led by Club President Frank Bacchi. Several bucket trucks were lent by union signatory employers E-J, Five Star, Comstock, Outfront Media, and Hellman Electric.
All are welcome to Electchester for the holiday celebration that will be held on Thursday, December 7th, featuring the lighting of the Christmas tree, Hanukkah menorah, and Kwanzaa kinara. In addition, the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center, which is also decorated by Local 3 members currently working for Unity Electric, will be lit on Wednesday, November 29th, through January 13th, so make sure to check out their fine work!
