Attendance at General Membership Meetings each month has improved as we return to normal work schedules coming out of the coronavirus pandemic, which unfortunately continues to be a threat. Before our latest meeting on November 18, dozens of members received vaccination shots to protect against COVID-19 and the flu. Updates include:

  • The ‘A’ contract expires in April 2022 and negotiations will commence soon. The Negotiating Committee will be chosen from the Wage & Policy Committee, and President Thomas Cleary will appoint representatives from the Apprentice classes of 2019 and 2020.   • The Veterans Club marched in the NYC Veterans Parade on November 11, and they collected toys before and during the meeting for the U.S. Marine Corps’ toy drive.
     
  • Local 3 recognized the 15 members who are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Army Reserves, Navy, Navy Reserves, and Marine Corps).
     
  • Letters were recently sent to elected officials on behalf of Local 3 IBEW to express support for spending from the recently signed federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to go to school construction, and to urge New York State to spend funds on climate-related jobs and the construction of zero-emissions buildings.
     
  • If you are working on a traveler’s card in another IBEW local union (e.g., Local 25 in Nassau County), please keep the Employment Department updated on your employment status.
     
  • Report from the Building & Construction Trades Council shared news on the $8.7 billion PLA for design-build jobs which includes jails in each borough as part of the plan to close Rikers; billions of dollars from the federal infrastructure bill going to large, long-term projects; hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent on new construction at the Oculus at the World Trade Center; 100% union construction at Fordham Landing in the Bronx as the project moves forward; NYSERDA creating manufacturing hubs at the Brooklyn Marine Terminal and potentially Arthur Kill, Staten Island; and the pause on the OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard regarding vaccines and tests.
     
  • Local 3 celebrates Native American Heritage Month.
     
  • Erin Sullivan, a forewoman by day, announced her resignation as Chair of the Local 3 Mentoring Program, and brother KC Glennon is stepping up to lead our Mentoring Program. Please sign up to be a mentor, as it is one of the best ways to give back to your union and to the next generation of Local 3 electricians.
