On April 30, 2016, the Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association held its 58th annual Scholarship Dinner Dance. There were over 530 people in attendance which included special guests NYC Public Advocate Letitia James, past NYC Comptroller John Liu and Councilman Rory Lancman.
Dance Chairman Donald Brathwaite å_started the program by thanking his committee for their help. Business Representative Rick Rollins thanked all business representatives, officers and everyone for coming to the 58th Annual Scholarship Dinner Dance.
Two scholarships were given. The Lewis H. Latimer Scholarship was given to Dointe A. Harrilal, his biography was read by Nick Rollins. The Lindsay Chalk Scholarship was given to Trevor L. McLeod Jr., his biography was read by Raymond Diaz.
Dance Chairman Donald Brathwaite called up Cheryl Farrell. Cheryl Farrell read the biography of Latimer’s “Club Honoree,” Otis Sessoms and she spoke of how kind-hearted Otis has always been. Business Representative Derek Jordan called up Latimer’s “Man of the Year,” Assistant Business Manager Lance Van Arsdale. Mr. Jordan acknowledged all of his accomplishments and for his unwavering support on behalf of members of Local 3.
Dance Chairman Donald Brathwaite called NYC Public Advocate Letitia James and Councilman Rory Lancman to the stage. Mr. Lancman presented Proclamations to the “Man of the Year,” Assistant Business Manager Lance Van Arsdale and the Latimer Club honoree, Otis Sessoms.
Letitia James thanked Business Manager Christopher Erikson and Business Representative Rick Rollins for the invitation to speak at the event. Ms. James said a few words about the honorees and scholarship recipients. She stressed the importance of solidarity and unions. The evening concluded with fellowship and a great evening of dancing.
