On February 9, 2015, the Executive Board elected Louis Alvarez to fill the unexpired term vacated by Christopher Erikson Jr. as an Executive Board member of Local 3.
Brother Louis Alvarez was born in 1967 in NYC and raised in Astoria Queens. He graduated from Long Island City H.S. in 1985. He attended SUNY Farmingdale for two years where he majored in business administration and is currently working on earning his Bachelor’s degree at the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School for Labor Studies. Brother Alvarez was initiated into Local 3 in April of 1989.
Since receiving his “A” card in 1995, Lou has worked in the capacity of journeyman wireman, sub-foreman and foreman at various shops within Local 3. In 2005 he became a NYC Master Electrician, He’s also worked in the capacity of junior estimator and project manager for a signatory contractor within Local 3. Louis is currently working as a job steward assigned to Business Representative Ray West Sr.
Brother Alvarez has been an active member of Local 3. He is a member of the Wage and Policy Committee, the Bronx Acorn Club, Asian American Cultural Society, Colony Club, and the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society. Lou is also a member of the IBEW Electrical Workers Minority Caucus, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People as well as the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement. As a member of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society, Lou served as Sergeant at Arms, Treasurer, and 2nd Vice President as well as the president of the Jose Lopez Memorial Scholarship fund. Brother Alvarez has served the MIJ Boot camp and assists in the Mentorship program. Lou participated in the development of the Electrical Code Class, has instructed various code classes and continues to support the program. In October of 2011, Lou Alvarez was elected by the Executive Board to serve the membership as an Examing Board officer of Local 3.
