Executive Board Member Tanya Renee Cunningham

At the March General Membership meeting, it was announced that Tanya Renee Cunningham was elected to the Executive Board to fill the unexpired term of Maureen Steiger, who has been appointed Pension Director.
Tanya is a 2nd generation Local 3 electrician. She was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from H. Frank Carey High School in Franklin Square.
Tanya was initiated into Local 3 in the year 2000 and graduated from Empire State College, the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies in 2004 with an associates degree. She received her A-journeywoman’s card in 2006 and has taken many courses offered from the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund, supervision training, citizenship responsibilities, computer basics and she also obtained her OSHA 30 certification.
Tanya was elected by her peers to the Wage and Policy Committee and was appointed to serve on the 2013 Contract Negotiating Committee.
She aided the Executive Board with the initiation of apprentices and different divisions within Local 3.
She has been a Labor Day Parade Captain for the last 3 parades and has helped with putting together the Women’s Day Celebration and Women’s March on Washington.
Tanya has served as a delegate to IBEW women’s conference. She has also been a delegate for The UALE (United Association of Labor Education) summer school, Women Build Nations, NYC women in construction and the young workers conferences and has attended the last 4 EWMC conferences where she serves on the Sergeants at Arms and Registration Committees.
Tanya is an active member of the Sportsmen’s Club, a member of the Amber Light Society, the corresponding secretary of the Bronx Acorn Club and recording secretary of both the Lewis Howard Latimer Association and the Colony Club.
As well as being active in Local 3, she is also active in the Electchester community. She serves as a committee member for the Electchester Street Fair and helps with the tree lighting ceremony. She also helps out with the Night on Crime event held in the Electchester Shopping Center.
Currently, Tanya is pursuing her bachelor’s degree from Empire State College, Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies and works as a shop steward in Upper Manhattan for Business Representative Rick Rollins.
