The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) is the international union representing approximately 820,000 men and women who are working in or retired from the electrical industry in the U.S. and Canada. Active members and retirees come from diverse backgrounds and a wide variety of careers in construction, utilities, manufacturing, telecommunications, broadcasting, and railroads. Each and every member has their own IBEW story to share. By doing so, you strengthen our bonds and our union as a whole.
In the June 2023 issue of The Electrical Worker, Local 3 journeyman wireman Alex “Archie” Alcantara shares his personal story as a young immigrant to the United States, as an IBEW member in New York City, and as a father. Brother Alcantara’s proudest moment as a Local 3 member was the volunteer delegation appointed by Business Manager Christopher Erikson and led by now-Vice President Louis Alvarez to assist Electrical Workers Without Borders in Angola, where he was able to use his native Portuguese language.
