New Pension Director as of May 1st
Maureen Steiger

Effective May 1, 2017 Maureen Steiger will replace Tom Gallagher as Pension Director. “A” journeyperson Maureen Steiger was elected by the Executive Board to fill the unexpired term of retiring Executive Board member James Jones at the Board’s July 8, 2007 meeting. Ms. Steiger was elected unanimously upon the recommendation of Business Manager Christopher Erikson. Since then she has been on the IBEW
Disaster Fund and an advocate for members experiencing sexual harassment.
She has been a delegate for many IBEW women’s conferences, 3rd district progress meetings, AFL-CIO conventions and the 38th and 39th IBEW conventions.
Sister Steiger is the first woman to hold office in the history of Local 3, IBEW. Her elevation to Executive Board member came after twenty-one years of service to the Union. She was initiated into the
“A” apprenticeship training program in 1986 and became an “A” journeyperson in 1992.
In 1990 she received her associate degree in labor studies from the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies, Empire State College, State University of New York.
In 2000 she began serving on the Apprentice Review Committee. In 2004 she served as secretary of the “A” Contract Negotiating Committee. She is a member of the Wage and Policy Committee and also served on the Local 3, IBEW Loan Fund Committee.
Maureen Steiger is a member of the Bedsole/Kingsboro Club where she served as a Sergeant-at-Arms, the Colony Club where she served on the Membership Committee, she is a EWMC NYC Chapter member and a past President of the Amber Light Society.
In addition to being an “A” jouneyperson, she has worked as a forewoman on various projects. She was a shop steward in midtown Manhattan. She is also skilled in fiber optic fusion splicing and testing; certified for confined space, MTA track safety and lockout/tagout. She also has OSHA 30 and scaffolding certification.
She is a Local 3 delegate to the Central Labor Council of NYC.
A graduate of Bishop Raymond A. Kearney High School, she resides in Electchester.
