Harry Van Arsdale, Jr. was born on November 23, 1905, and he died on February 16th, 1986. He died nearly 40 years ago but Harry’s legacy lives on. His impact on the members of Local 3 and working people everywhere is immeasurable. Harry cared about all working men and women, no matter where they lived, where they came from, or what they did for work. He served as Business Manager of Local 3, as the first president of the NYC Central Labor Council after the merger between the AFL and CIO, and as the Treasurer of the IBEW, amongst numerous other titles and positions. But at the end of the day, Harry's only goal was to improve the lives of working people everywhere.

“A worker has a little chance if he has a union and a better chance if it's a good union, but without a union, he has no chance."
