As Harry Van Arsdale Jr. used to say, “Help those less fortunate.” At Local 3, we try to live up to his words every day, especially at this time of year.
Affiliated Clubs and the rank-and-file have been volunteering to give back to their communities between the EWMC Day of Service, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and New Year’s. Volunteers helped at food drives in the Bronx at St. Joan of Arc Church, in Washington Heights with Assemblyman Manny De Los Santos, and with Feeding Westchester in Elmsford, New York.
As electricians, Local 3 members are always ready to help with tree lightings. The St. George Association decorated the Electchester neighborhood ahead of the holiday lighting ceremony on December 11th; the Staten Island Electrical Club again assisted the Tottenville Civic Association along with Fusion Tech, Arcadia Electrical, and Cooper Electric; and the Westchester Mechanics Association returned to the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center to string up the lights and wreaths with materials donated by Verde Electric.
The ongoing toy drive and coat drive are open for donations in the Electric Industry Center lobby and at the next General Membership meeting this Thursday, December 12th. The Veterans Club has been collecting donations to the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, and they will participate in the annual tradition of Wreaths Across America at Cypress Hills National Cemetery this Saturday, December 14th, followed by an Army-Navy college football watch party. Other affiliated clubs are hosting holiday parties throughout the month of December. It truly is the most wonderful time of year!
