On May 18 2016, the negotiations for the “J” division were completed, and an agreement was reached by both sides. The contract negotiations for Street Lighting and Traffic Signal Maintenance were led by Business Representative Richard Duva, Assistant Business Manager Louis Restrepo, Chairman Gregory Farrell and Board member Victor Paduano. There were multiple sessions over several weeks prior to the agreement which ended with a handshake in the final hours approaching the expiration of the current contract which expired at 4 pm on May 18, 2016.
On Thursday May 26th, members of the “J” Division assembled in the auditorium at å_Local 3 headquarters to ratify the contract. The Memorandum of Agreement was presented to the membership by Business Representative Duva who then entertained questions concerning some of the changes in the new agreement. The vote was then put to the floor and the membership voted unanimously on the new three-year contract. The contract representing almost 400 members included more language on safety, increased benefits, inclement weather, and supervision requirements. The contractors were represented by Kenneth BroUnion Worlder and Peter Ronzetti from Welsbach Electric, Tony Mann and Dave Ferguson from EJ Electric and Steve Lazaro from Hellman Electric.
