Metropolitan Park is an opportunity to transform 50 acres of asphalt parking lots around Citi Field in Flushing, Queens, into the destination of a new casino, live entertainment, public parks, and international cuisine that exemplify “the World’s Borough.” The proposal by New York Mets owner Steve Cohen and Hard Rock Entertainment amounts to an $8-billion private investment into the area, including a $1-billion community benefits agreement. All in all, it is expected to create 15,000 good-paying permanent jobs and construction jobs.
Local 3 members and the Allied Club of Queens have been attending town halls and advocating in favor of the Metropolitan Park proposal, which is currently under review, as it involves the repurposing of public land.
