This week, April 26-May 1, is the nationwide Week of Action for the PRO Act. The AFL-CIO and unions across the U.S. will be hosting events and outreach in support of the most consequential labor law since the New Deal.
The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act was passed by the House of Representatives in March and President Joe Biden has promised to sign it once it reaches his desk. Senate co-sponsors have grown to 47 senators in recent weeks, including New York’s Sen. Charles Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, but 50 Republican senators and three Democratic senators — Sen. Kyrsten Sinema and Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia — are still holding out under pressure from the American labor movement and our allies.
Please take a minute to write or call your Senators at (866) 832-1560, especially if you live in a state without a Senate co-sponsor. Even if your Senator has sponsored the PRO Act, make sure to thank them for their support. The NYC CLC will check in with union delegates later this week on Thursday at 6:00 pm (RSVP). Stay tuned for more events.
