Right now in Washington, D.C., members of the U.S. Senate are gridlocked on a partisan basis from passing another round of much-needed COVID-19 relief for working families. The House of Representatives passed the HEROES Act, legislation that provides pandemic relief including aid for states and cities, emergency worker hazard pay, benefits for families, and more, but the Senate refuses to act.

We need assistance from active members and retirees to encourage Senators to support the HEROES Act, particularly in these states: Pennsylvania, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia.

Local Union No. 3 is asking you to reach out to your elected representatives in the Senate and voice your support. We’re asking you to call and write your U.S. Senator today. For a listing of all U.S. Senators, click here.

While most aspects of the HEROES Act are good for working people, there is one provision that you need to educate your Senator on and implore them to remove from the legislation. IBEW and Local Union No. 3 oppose the inclusion of the GROW Act, allowing for the creation of composite multiemployer pensions. Composite plans put worker and retiree benefits at risk, undermine existing plans, and will put your pension plan in danger. Click here for the IBEW’s fact sheet about why composite plans are bad for workers.

It is incredibly important we convince Senators facing tough re-election races to support the interests of working people and support legislation that helps sustain the economy. Your voice can make the difference!
