Local 3 members who proudly marched in the 2017 Pride Parade.
On Sunday, June 25th, a historic delegation of 50 Local 3 members and their families marched in the NYC Pride Parade for the first time in the parade’s 40-year history.
Dual club president Michele Betancourt-Maldonado (Amber Light Society and Family Wellness Club) led the delegation under the banner of the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus, alongside dual club president Wendell Yee (EWMC NYC Chapter and Asian American Cultural Society).
Local 3’s EWMC chapter is comprised of members from the Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association, the Asian American Cultural Society, the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society and the Amber Light Society.
The Local 3 banner was met with enthusiasm not only from parade watchers, but from the parade review stands as well. The Eighth Street grandstand announcer greeted Local 3 and announced to the crowd unprompted that Union people brought them the weekend and to only hire Union workers to wire their homes.
It was an inspiring celebration of equality and the start of a great Local 3 tradition.
