On the heels of a successful vote in East Hampton last month, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the South Fork Offshore Wind Project is being considered by the Federal Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM). The South Fork Wind Project is a 15-turbine, 132-megawatt (MW) project contracted by the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). This offshore wind project will be located 35 miles east of Montauk Point, New York and will power 70,000 homes and create 1,600 family-sustaining jobs. Ørsted/Eversource is the developer, who has committed to investing in a $10-million Offshore Wind Training Center and using contractors who have Project Labor Agreements with the Nassau/Suffolk Building and Construction Trades Council.
