James Bua was appointed a Business Representative at the General Membership meeting on November 10, 2010. Business Manager Christopher Erikson made the recommendation to the membership who approved it unanimously. Jim represents construction electricians in the borough of Queens.
Born in Brooklyn, he was initiated into Local 3 on March 17, 1982. He completed his apprenticeship and became an “A” journeyman in 1988. He has worked in the electrical industry as a journeyman, sub-foreman, foreman, general foreman, shop steward and superintendent.
Jim is a member of the Allied Union Club of Queens, Catholic Council of Electrical Workers and Colony Club. He is a founding member of the Motorcycle Club and served as its president for 10 years.
Jim is a member of the Wage and Policy Committee, Laws and Resolutions Committee and a past member of the Electrical Workers Death Benefit Society. He is a trustee for the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry and a delegate to the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York. He was a Sergeant at Arms at the 38th IBEW Convention.
A certified welder, he has also completed nearly every class offered by the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund, EESISP and Local 3. He is a mentor at the Local 3 Boot Camp. He has assisted in the administration of the Code Committee and code classes offered by the industry.
He and retired Business Representative Austin McCann worked together formulating the Outside Line Agreement for Local 3 members.
Jim earned a bachelor’s degree in labor studie from SUNY Empire State College Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies. He and his wife, Loren, have three children: Gina Marie, Leanne and Jimmy. They reside in Baldwin, Long Island.
