Construction – Lower Manhattan

Elliot Hecht was initiated into Local 3, IBEW in 1974. Upon completion of his “A” Apprenticeship, he became a journeyman. He worked on various projects throughout the five boroughs of the city of New York and at the time of his appointment as a business representative, he was employed by Forest Electric.

Since starting as a business representative, Business Manager Erikson has assigned him the responsibilities as the construction representative for all work being performed south of Houston Street, river to river. Brother Hecht was elected to the Executive Board on October 9, 2000.

A second-generation member of the union, his father Louis was an “A” construction division member. He is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., where he received a bachelors in 1974. His major was industrial and labor relations. An active trade unionist his entire time in Local 3, he is a member of the Wage and Policy Committee, Organizing Committee, and served on the Hardship Committee. He has also been active in fraternal organizations within the electrical industry including the Keystone Club and Electrical Welfare Club. He is the past president of the Welfare Club and has been an official of the Club since 1982.

As a former longtime resident of Electchester Housing in Queens where he participated in Boy Scouting, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He also served as the Electchester Troop Scoutmaster and as its representative to the National Boy Scouts of America. He and his wife Judith have two daughters, Jacquelyn and Sharon.
